If you're crazy about vintage books like our dear Shihui, Bras Basah Complex will be the ideal hideout for you to spend one whole afternoon there. Vintage books are even easier to be identified for their ages than apparels as the publishing years and editions are printed clearly. Children books are among the best keepsakes, from my point of view. & don't find me eccentric, but there's this epic aged smell of the yellow pages which make them even magical. Illustrated bibles, history books, encyclopedias, vintage Snoopy and Garfield's, nursery rhymes, Jane Austen's, postcards, you name it. And some are priced at 3 for S$10.

We also found a great chill out place today at Strictly Pancakes, Prinsep Street. They probably serve the best pancakes in Singapore!

Love comes in all forms: partner, friends, family, pets, strangers, teachers, yourself. It's really sweet to see people around sending flowers and balloons and wishes and you can never find a wider grin on each person's face. Today, I did all the cheesiest stuff I could think of: cheesy phrases on paper bags for the loved ones, cheesy hearts napkin as a bib during dinner, and a pair of cheesy heart shaped aviators as a gift for myself! It made them laugh so hard they couldn't say no to my cheesy way of expressing love!

Please ignore my oily face and hair after a long day outside but I just wanted to show you all the valentine's outfit. I didn't plan this firsthand. but unexpectedly it's period day 1, hence black becomes the dominant color. And coincidentally, it serves as an experiment with the handmade collar. It's my first time wearing a detachable collar. At first I felt uneasy as the collar got 'dislocated' all the time. I tried to tie the ribbon shorter behind. That works. But I would suggest you might need to hide a pin underneath the collar to secure it better with the neck area of your top.

Just a photo sharing post of my personal boxes family collection and vintage postcards I've gotten from my ex-classmates when they're in UK. If you're an old customer of CGV, I've always included a postcard as a thank you note in the parcel. But as time goes till now, the humble collection of postcards can't really cope with the amount of thank you we have to say! Maybe it's time to design some retro postcards! Though it take two weeks or more for the snail mail to arrive, it's probably one of the best traditions that most contemporary people have long neglected or forgotten.

The boxes are from various sources. I got the basket bag from a local wedding supply store. The beautiful beaded clutch was a surprise gift from the really sweet ex-classmates during our Bali art exploration trip. The hand painted rose wooden box was a birthday gift from my junior college sweetheart. While the rectangle 'nursery' luggage is from Lovely Lace. It's an ideal container for keeping jewelries from getting rusty and oxidized. If you've visited us during our pop up event, you'll see it sitting daintily on the desk as a display case and adornment piece.

P/S: Thank you so so much for the over-overwhelming response for the DIY collar! We'll introduce more easy DIY tutorials in future as well!

PETER PAN COLLAR

Today we had some DIY sessions in the store. It's a peter pan collar made of faux leopard fur, a leftover of a major failure from our last winter project (we're trying to make a vest!). But for this decorative collar, it's really easy and everyone can do it. And don't you think that some of the detachable collars sold outside are overpriced?

All you need is
a piece of fabric (at least 24cm x 20cm)

(You can purchase the faux animal fur cloth at Spotlight, felt is another good material)
scissors
ribbon
needle and thread
button

pencil/marker
fabric glue/hot glue gun (optional)

Copy/print the collar palette template here. Draw and cut out the two collar pieces. If you would like to sew the edges, please make sure to leave 0.5cm or more wider of the original template. If you're using any the faux fur fabric, do make sure that the direction of the fur flow to be downwards or the collar will look weird.

Remove any flying or cutout fur and thread if you're using faux fur.

Overlap the the wider ends of the collar and sew a button on them.

For the two thinner ends, glue or sew the ribbon straps

It's really that easy. All you need is just 20 minutes. But if you really love our version of fur collars, we managed to make not only 3 but 10 collars out of our piece of leftover, which means it's another giveaway! After much discussion, the team thinks that one giveaway is simply not enough to express our gratitude. These peter pan collars might not be perfect, you might even spot some flyaway fur, and might be itchy for some (due to the fur material), but they're all handmade with love. And best of all, all 10 are sewn with different vintage buttons in the middle! The first 10 customers will receive this beautiful fur collar. All fur collars will be posted via Poslaju/Singpost normal postage to your doorstep. Thank you very much!

It's never been an easy journey all this while. Since graduation on July last year, I've decided to make CGV full time and never look back. It's probably the craziest idea ever, as people will ask you what you will be doing after graduation, and I'd say: "I sell vintage online." A lot are skeptical if this vintage and recycling idea will last. Honestly, I have no idea at all. But there's only thing that I am sure of: Believe and Persevere. It's been months since I got in touch with florals again, and it's been a year since I'e worn my high waist jeans as well. It's not easy to stumble upon a vintage YSL bag. I was so tempted to bring it back to the store, but alas age has taken up its beauty with tears and stains and I've decided to let it go. Pity that the previous owner would have taken greater care for such a timeless beauty!

For leather bags, please do use kiwi wax to clean the surface once in a while. It will keep a delightful sheen and the bags will be new and happy. Wipe off any stain if you happen to drop a bit of cheese or gravy on it while having dinner, and use a plastic carrier to wrap it up and put it back in the wardrobe.

There will be a few more bags adding up to the store in a short while. That includes a shell pouch, a black Crocodile sling, some Italian branded bags, and a floral gathered bag. I wonder how do I manage to say goodbyes to these beauties all the time!

To be honest, I don't really seek new clothes for Chinese New Year. It sort of defeats the original purpose as the contemporary people shop for new apparels on a basic routine, i.e. just another reason to get overspent. And furthermore, don't you realize that the way-too-formal dresses/outfits you've bought for cny will be worn just once/twice a year and kept away in the dust?

This red thrifted cheongsam has been with me for three years or more. It's red and typical, but it totally beats all other new designed oriental dresses, for they look best in the traditional way (that's what mum and I both agree) without any additional modern elements or cuttings.

The beautiful handmade clutch is created with the fusion of Indian, Eastern & Western elements in mind. The oriental fan costs only SGD2, definitely the perfect accessory for this outfit, and also the best partner during merciless sunny days. You can get them at Temple Street, Chinatown.

The blog is now transformed to the minimalist photoblog template, but with optimum visuality effect and functions. I did a little back-to-the-past for the logo as well, so as to let you visualize how the logo is born from draft to completion. Loving its clean and tidy look, emphasizing only the pictures and posts. Our Bloglovin' has just gone up at the sidebar too! It works like a mailing list, but you could catch up with CGV and other blogs at the same time. Practically we're still in the new year mood and mode, but 70 plus new apparels are now in store, waiting patiently to be adopted to their new homes and lovely owners soon.

Something's really getting crazy in my mind this lunar new year. I swear to myself that for the rest of the 15 days, it's strictly code red, all sorts of red, and who really cares if I look like a walking angpau. I am pampered with all the saturated colors and happiness, and that's the whole point. Colors really make one happy and it's the best moment of year if you would like to have some color blocking. Of course, the elder people love it as well, which I suppose it's an auspicious thing.

We're doing something unusual this time round. Instead of sticking around the mahjong table (no, I'm nuts when it comes to this. All I do was just sitting beside them watching tv or giving out cups of tea!), our aunts followed us for some outdoor photo taking, picnics and lake strolling! We'll be going for a short road trip up north, not via the traffic jamming highway, but the old roads so that we could stop by some of the really old kedai runcit and mamak stalls we could never find on the map. It's a longer route and definitely time consuming, but it totally wins for the better landscape and nostalgic experience!

Last Minute CNY DIY

You know there are times when we've reached the optimum stress level during the festival's peak countdown, and everything on the shopping racks doesn't really seem eye-pleasing. That goes the same for someone as choosy as me. At such moments of urgency, I opt to get handy and creative with the stuff around the house.

What you need:

A pair of basic pumps, a pair of oriental knots, scissors, thread, needle, fabric glue

You can get the oriental knots at the old sewing/handcraft stores at Chinatown.

I've got this pair of handmade grandma shoes from Kaohsiung, Taiwan after seeing a hole underneath my own pair. For the oriental knots/kungfu buttons, choose either analogous or complementary colors as compared with your shoes. Stitch the knots/stick them on with fabric glue and you're done!

Now you have a new pair of great walking partners for your CNY outfits!

Store Update: Overdosed Redness II

Not only the store is overwhelmed with overdosage of redness, we're getting red with heat as we're too excited and anxious to complete everything before Lunar New Year. Alter and iron the dresses, take pictures, edit and upload, pack the parcels, send the parcels 5 minutes before the post office calls it a day, reply emails, update, buy envelopes and brown paper etc. It sounds easy but really it's tedious to complete!

And also, apologies for the weird photo quality this time round. We're trying new methods to take pictures during late night, but for now, we think we'd better stick back to the usual setting! Some are overexposed (red tones are the hardest to get 'em right in the cam!) and we'll try to retake them if time allows!

I hope you all enjoy the continued part of Overdosed Redness. There are three dresses that are way too beautiful for us to alter them shorter, and such complicated details at the hems, hence they are left ground-touching.

Store Update: A Lady Was Hence Born

From today till eves of Lunar New Year, we will be uploading all the eye candies, little by little, that is definitely strict to the code red and new year appropriate. It's not easy to collect vintage cheongsams, but somehow we manage to gather up all these for a mini collection. We've been drooling over the oriental details, the complicated chinese knots (or we playfully known them as 'kungfu buttons'), dragons and phoenixes motifs, and of course the popping reds.

One piece cheongsams are totally figure hugging and elegant, while you can be more versatile with the cute tops as well, matching contemporary bottoms for different days or occasions.

For tops on Destiny the doll hanger, it simply means it's strictly for the pretty petites. Even the mannequin gives up!

If you're not really into the traditional crave, we've got the everyday vintage pieces coming up soon as well! All are heavily saturated with the family of reds as well, which means it's time for some color blocking again!

In Need of Leathers

Within 24 hours, almost all bags are sold or reserved. I couldn't even manage to really peruse which bag we should leave for the store until the enquiries came flooding in. We couldn't have thank you girls over and over again how much the support you've given mean to us. Mai had even emailed us with the best encouragement that we've now written it down on our post-its to read it every time we pass by our notice board! And we swear with our hearts to be better every day and there's a great feeling that this will be the best year yet! Pardon with the abusive usage of exclamation marks, but we strongly feel that we've not used enough!

Next up, there will be a giveaway in store as gesture of appreciation and of course, who doesn't love gifts anyway? Vintage cheongsams and all things red and spicy, pink and poppy are coming right up to the store in no time! Time to really get dressed up with colors, colors and colors girls!

I was the only one holding the camera during the overseas trip, taking pictures everything, everywhere but my own outfits, so here's some 'later supplements' back in hometown. We're trying out the new lens my broth Here's the lighter version, minus the breeze and double the temperature. Most of the time your scarf, socks, leggings and boots are some of the compulsory items to keep you warm and cuddly. The main clue is to pile up sufficient warmth without looking way too bulky.

As you can see, I am still very much obsessed with my floor length phase, even though most of the maxi skirts and dresses didn't really reach my ankles which put on the chill under my knees during wintertime. We're rushing to catch the last ray of sun this evening. And as you can see from the pictures, they're all arranged in time, so you could enjoy the descending colors and sunlight while you scroll down the page.

Double breasted wool coats are really useful. They never really go out of style and you can match almost anything under them. Tie the ribbon in front or back to enhance your silhouette. You can find them in all sorts of colors and quality in Taipei, ranging from NT800-NT2000. For tropical people like us, you could get one with a basic color, I would say black or beige or navy blue. Just one will be enough, so that you'll have something pretty and warm enough to wear when you visit a colder country once in a blue moon, yet without burning a hole in your pocket.

There are many reasons I visit Taiwan every year end. The right amount of chill of the winter breeze, contradicting mix of old and new elements in the city, super friendly strangers, and everything's really accessible which makes backpacking and visiting overseas friends light and easy at Taipei.

If you're thinking of getting wholesale prices items at Taipei, head to Wufenpu (MRT: Houshanpi) where you'll be overwhelmed by the season's latest trends and fashion with only half the price we usually see in the market ( A great tip for shop owners!). If you would like to spend your night flipping pages to read and sipping tea, Eslite will be the best place for quiet night owls ( some are open 24 hours).

Some days, you need to pile up your wool coat to hide your arms in the pockets and put on a scarf to keep your neck warm. Some days, you can probably just throw in an oversized sweater with leggings and you're good to go.

One night, we just sat on the wooden floors of a corner of Eslite, took some magazines to pretend that we're perusing them. But in fact, we're chatting our hearts through the winter night.

Probably due to the recent bad tempered season and lack of color inspiration, I've neglected or almost forgotten some of these favorite feminine colors such as apple white and coral pink. The slightly overexposed photos don't seem to do enough justice for the delicate lace details on this beautiful vintage ivory knitted top. It will be available in store for our next and last collection of the year- Finale 2011, which will be up soon in a day or two.

Yes, we'll be heading overseas during December and CGV store will sorta be on a 'holiday mode' for a month. We'll still be replying emails, no worries, but the flow will be much slower. The last delivery will be on 7th December.

The days seem to leap faster as you grow older. I don't even get enough glimpses of christmas trees, santa claus and mistletoes, yet some stores in the older parts of town are already ringing Lunar New Year songs!

We're going outdoors to test shooting with our new camera. As the rain pours in and shoos away the sunlight, the night breaks in even earlier than we thought.

A special collection for fall & winter vintage clothes will be up soon. Do expect to see some cozy knitted sweaters, jumpers, long dresses and coats. They're definitely the perfect choice to pick up if you're going overseas for a chillier holiday soon. But if you're here, no worries, 'cause there will be cardigans, dresses and tops as usual! But they're mainly inspired by the darker shades or off tone hues.

Currently I am addicted to longer lengths such as pencil skirts and basic maxi dresses, collar shirts with oversized sweaters for a preppy look, and not to forget the really seductive wine red color.

Good Old Days Vintage & Indie Fest

The holiday was blessed with a bright warm sun and everyone seems to be in a good mood going out. We've met lots of fabulous old customers, as well as new faces, and also people who's totally strangers to vintage.

I met some really funny encounters: Jiaqi's friend who doesn't wear vintage garments but grabbed away all the vintage books at the rack, a foreigner teacher who planned to catch a bus back to Melaka but delayed her schedule to rummage through the treasures, and a lady who asked me, " Excuse me, but is this bag owner still alive?"

We were too busy that the camera has been left long forgotten under the table! I should have taken pictures of: Jiaqi, Steffi and her adorable group of girls, Vanessa and her sunshine smile, Nadiah the really stylish girl who came down solely for CGV (and I would really wish to steal her turban and cheetah ring!), Yvonne and Jasmine the two beautiful girls who have grabbed two whole bags of vintage stuff even before the event started, Shiwei who's shyly passed us her postcard which I've almost slipped, Peggy and her partner, a super bubbly gal from Totally Hot Stuff who's became the happiest girl after purchasing from CGV. Jiaqi, Steffi and Nadiah were even wearing their purchase from CGV, which looked fabulous on them!

And of course we would like to say a BIG thank you to Eugene and Creme Creative Market's team. It's the best flea we've ever joined so far! Eugene is personally a super friendly and down-to-earth in-charge and it's really great to know him and meet him in person! Ample space is provided, and we're allowed to decorate or put up any props we love! There's a fitting room for everyone, and of course not to forget the cute lucky dip which warms all the hearts of both buyers and vendors.

Feeling really uneasy without an update for the entire week, here's a sneak peek of what's available for Good Old Days vintage fest tomorrow!

There will be a mix of old and new ( unpublished in our blogstore) stuff from the store, both vintage and thrift. Besides garments, we manage to sort out a variety of interesting items such as:

Accessories might be small, but they make a HUGE difference on your outfit. These little darlings are sophisticated, delicate, and you can never get enough of them.

I've managed to rummage out some trinkets and treasures at the nearby handcraft store and Fabric Fanatics, and currently I am totally addicted to them- Vintage buttons! Some are really rusty, some are timeless, and most are 20 years old and above! Now isn't that the part that we love about vintage? They're now stitched onto blouses, denims, and I managed to transform some into earrings!

They'll be in store soon :)

There's a new girl at the store recently as well, Claudia- the boho gypsy.

Claudia loves mixing the opposites- tribal exotic accessories into contemporary pieces. She never really cares what the trend comes and goes, but rather, she experiments her pieces as frequent as a chameleon changes its color. She's outgoing, yet there's always a certain calmness in her. Everyone loves her individuality ( or eccentricity, some may say)!

I've been dedicating more effort on her hairdo- the brunette strands, and the hippie turban. There'll be more girls joining the crew and most will say hi to you all at the flea market!

And since autumn is here, it's my favorite season but too bad all we got here is rain and gloomy days, so I doodled some falling brown leaves as a 'fake fall wall'.

The really creative owners Jeremy and Kelsey Turner renovate the old school bus into a moving vintage store, where he and his wife drives the store around Dallas, and yes, so that people around the neighborhood could shop at the bus!

Let's check out the interior! You'll be amazed by the range of items they have!

Jane Aldridge from Sea of Shoes loves the unique tee collection the bus offers.

And the bus could just stop at anywhere! Flea markets, school campuses, downtown, suburban areas, or just right to your doorstep! I think that's the best a vintage hunter could have. Searching for goodies everywhere while having the best road trips in your amazing moving creation. It really is a piece of walking art and love. This will secretly be in my future wish list!

I am honored to be with you today at your commencement from one of the finest universities in the world. I never graduated from college. Truth be told, this is the closest I've ever gotten to a college graduation. Today I want to tell you three stories from my life. That's it. No big deal. Just three stories.

The first story is about connecting the dots.

I dropped out of Reed College after the first 6 months, but then stayed around as a drop-in for another 18 months or so before I really quit. So why did I drop out?

It started before I was born. My biological mother was a young, unwed college graduate student, and she decided to put me up for adoption. She felt very strongly that I should be adopted by college graduates, so everything was all set for me to be adopted at birth by a lawyer and his wife. Except that when I popped out they decided at the last minute that they really wanted a girl. So my parents, who were on a waiting list, got a call in the middle of the night asking: "We have an unexpected baby boy; do you want him?" They said: "Of course." My biological mother later found out that my mother had never graduated from college and that my father had never graduated from high school. She refused to sign the final adoption papers. She only relented a few months later when my parents promised that I would someday go to college.

And 17 years later I did go to college. But I naively chose a college that was almost as expensive as Stanford, and all of my working-class parents' savings were being spent on my college tuition. After six months, I couldn't see the value in it. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life and no idea how college was going to help me figure it out. And here I was spending all of the money my parents had saved their entire life. So I decided to drop out and trust that it would all work out OK. It was pretty scary at the time, but looking back it was one of the best decisions I ever made. The minute I dropped out I could stop taking the required classes that didn't interest me, and begin dropping in on the ones that looked interesting.

It wasn't all romantic. I didn't have a dorm room, so I slept on the floor in friends' rooms, I returned coke bottles for the 5¢ deposits to buy food in friends' rooms, I returned coke bottles for the 5¢ deposits to buy food with, and I would walk the 7 miles across town every Sunday night to get one good meal a week at the Hare Krishna temple. I loved it. And much of what I stumbled into by following my curiosity and intuition turned out to be priceless later on. Let me give you one example:

Reed College at that time offered perhaps the best calligraphy instruction in the country. Throughout the campus every poster, every label on every drawer, was beautifully hand calligraphed. Because I had dropped out and didn't have to take the normal classes, I decided to take a calligraphy class to learn how to do this. I learned about serif and san serif typefaces, about varying the amount of space between different letter combinations, about what makes great typography great. It was beautiful, historical, artistically subtle in a way that science can't capture, and I found it fascinating.

None of this had even a hope of any practical application in my life. But ten years later, when we were designing the first Macintosh computer, it all came back to me. And we designed it all into the Mac. It was the first computer with beautiful typography. If I had never dropped in on that single course in college, the Mac would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts. And since Windows just copied the Mac, its likely that no personal computer would have them. If I had never dropped out, I would have never dropped in on this calligraphy class, and personal computers might not have the wonderful typography that they do. Of course it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college. But it was very, very clear looking backwards ten years later.

Again, you can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something - your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.

My second story is about love and loss.

I was lucky - I found what I loved to do early in life. Woz and I started Apple in my parents garage when I was 20. We worked hard, and in 10 years Apple had grown from just the two of us in a garage into a $2 billion company with over 4000 employees. We had just released our finest creation - the Macintosh - a year earlier, and I had just turned 30. And then I got fired. How can you get fired from a company you started? Well, as Apple grew we hired someone who I thought was very talented to run the company with me, and for the first year or so things went well. But then our visions of the future began to diverge and eventually we had a falling out. When we did, our Board of Directors sided with him. So at 30 I was out. And very publicly out. What had been the focus of my entire adult life was gone, and it was devastating.

I really didn't know what to do for a few months. I felt that I had let the previous generation of entrepreneurs down - that I had dropped the baton as it was being passed to me. I met with David Packard and Bob Noyce and tried to apologize for screwing up so badly. I was a very public failure, and I even thought about running away from the valley. But something slowly began to dawn on me - I still loved what I did. The turn of events at Apple had not changed that one bit. I had been rejected, but I was still in love. And so I decided to start over.

I didn't see it then, but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life.

During the next five years, I started a company named NeXT, another company named Pixar, and fell in love with an amazing woman who would become my wife. Pixar went on to create the worlds first computer animated feature film, Toy Story, and is now the most successful animation studio in the world. In a remarkable turn of events, Apple bought NeXT, I retuned to Apple, and the technology we developed at NeXT is at the heart of Apple's current renaissance. And Laurene and I have a wonderful family together.

I'm pretty sure none of this would have happened if I hadn't been fired from Apple. It was awful tasting medicine, but I guess the patient needed it. Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don't settle.

My third story is about death.

When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: "If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you'll most certainly be right." It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: "If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?" And whenever the answer has been "No" for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.

Remembering that I'll be dead soon is the most important tool I've ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything - all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure - these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.

About a year ago I was diagnosed with cancer. I had a scan at 7:30 in the morning, and it clearly showed a tumor on my pancreas. I didn't even know what a pancreas was. The doctors told me this was almost certainly a type of cancer that is incurable, and that I should expect to live no longer than three to six months. My doctor advised me to go home and get my affairs in order, which is doctor's code for prepare to die. It means to try to tell your kids everything you thought you'd have the next 10 years to tell them in just a few months. It means to make sure everything is buttoned up so that it will be as easy as possible for your family. It means to say your goodbyes.

I lived with that diagnosis all day. Later that evening I had a biopsy, where they stuck an endoscope down my throat, through my stomach and into my intestines, put a needle into my pancreas and got a few cells from the tumor. I was sedated, but my wife, who was there, told me that when they viewed the cells under a microscope the doctors started crying because it turned out to be a very rare form of pancreatic cancer that is curable with surgery. I had the surgery and I'm fine now.

This was the closest I've been to facing death, and I hope its the closest I get for a few more decades. Having lived through it, I can now say this to you with a bit more certainty than when death was a useful but purely intellectual concept:

No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don't want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life's change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.

Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

When I was young, there was an amazing publication called The Whole Earth Catalog, which was one of the bibles of my generation. It was created by a fellow named Stewart Brand not far from here in Menlo Park, and he brought it to life with his poetic touch. This was in the late 1960's, before personal computers and desktop publishing, so it was all made with typewriters, scissors, and polaroid cameras. It was sort of like Google in paperback form, 35 years before Google came along: it was idealistic, and overflowing with neat tools and great notions.

Stewart and his team put out several issues of The Whole Earth Catalog, and then when it had run its course, they put out a final issue. It was the mid-1970s, and I was your age. On the back cover of their final issue was a photograph of an early morning country road, the kind you might find yourself hitchhiking on if you were so adventurous. Beneath it were the words: "Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish." It was their farewell message as they signed off. Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish. And I have always wished that for myself. And now, as you graduate to begin anew, I wish that for you.

Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.

The happiest thing in the store, other than sourcing for precious treasures for the store, is getting to know really nice people that appreciates both our services and products received.

We promise ourselves to provide the most patient replies and fastest delivery to all our customers. And to make things work like the wind, it actually takes both sides ( the buyer and the seller) to cooperate well in order to reach a win-win situation.

Recently, our team is encountering the same old-new problems again. We bumped into a few deadbuyers, drag queens, missing in actions, customers who's waiting for the reservation waiting list with their necks as long as a giraffe's.

We really hope that all customers receive what they want and are happy about it. Yet, in fact, we met people who's taking the reservation preference for granted. And we can't do anything about it right now, as we really don't wish to put up an invisible blacklist. That's really not the way things are to be done.

Dear all, so now, we really need your comments and suggestions:

Shall we...

1. Resume the 48 hours reservation privilege? While others will be on the waiting list?

2. Change it to a first-pay-first-serve policy?

3. Or an automatic shopping cart system?

4. Any other suggestions?

Slim Belts with Chunky Buckles

53 weeks has a range of really rad retro slim belts where you can match them with almost anything in your wardrobe, especially your vintage dresses and pants. Without these staples, I sometimes feel incomplete or uneasy going out! These belts come in all sorts of vintage-inspired colors as well as bold tones, giving the entire collection a vintage appeal with a modern aesthetics.

Vintage Labels

The pictures are still a bit gloomy even when I brought them outdoor photo shooting. Maybe these are the signs of fall.

There are a few things that I am personally addicted to vintage clothes: the collars, buttons, high waist silhouettes and of course, the inner linings and the labels. As most garments from the past were usually tailor made or manufactured in a smaller scale, the overall quality is better as compared to the contemporary mass produced clothes. Vintage clothes were made and meant to be kept and worn for a longer period of time.

I could imagine the hardworking tailors and seamstresses working and drawing every inch on the fabric to create an upcoming masterpiece. They never neglect the insides as well! Every time a new garment arrives, I will carefully peruse the delicate threaded/woven labels!

And if there's times where you can't identify a garment if it's vintage or retro, just check out the labels (the fonts used!) and you'll usually find the answers there :)

Apologies for the really late midnight shopping. The doll hangers were sick (some chipped boards at the side and a bent shoulder!), I'm sick too, probably due to the rainy gloomy days and non-stop working. And it's too dark to take pictures indoors. So the mannequin is on duty at the front yard today. Replies will end at 12 midnight today as I've gotta force myself to sleep early and not to look at the emails until tomorrow!

Remember to have an appropriate footwear during this unexpected season. Umbrellas, macintosh, bulky boots or shoes with thicker platforms will save your day from getting soaked on the toes. And get a nice cup of warm lemon honey tea at night to warm your body!

This morning, we swear to ourselves that from today onwards, we gotta learn to become the best domestic goddesses in future, for our family, future husbands and kids! Winnie & Piglet egg mayonnaise sandwiches and smoked baked bacons.

No we're not tourists. When it's goodies sourcing day, we'll brought our trusty luggage to carry all the precious finds!

A potential thrift and vintage update during the weekend night, only if I manage to reply all emails and photo taking and rendering and measurements and packing the parcels and visiting the post office! Stay tune and have a great weekend guys :)!

Autumn is my favorite season and I am literally dying with envy seeing all these pretties hanging online.

The Funny Thing About Vintage

When Angela and I found this pair of pants at the thrift store, it was love at first sight. It's quite rare to come across long pants with such bright contrast flora patterns, velvety texture and in excellent condition. ( Too bad I should have taken a picture before the makeover!)

Though floral pants are back on the runway, focusing on the bottom and making it simple on the top, I still find this pair pretty challenging to match. When I got them back home, my brother even teased that even grandmas won't wear them!

So that teasing just sparked my urge to do something with the pants! Occasionally I do snipped off old jeans and transformed them into threaded grunge shorts. So I got out my scissors and snap snap!

Take a pair of your own high waist pants. Compare and measure the length of the hems. You should always add at least 2cm as you'll need to fold the endings inwards to sew the hems. Last but not least, take out your sewing machine for the finishings! It's really easy, suitable for beginners and sewing nuts like me.

After the pants have been sold, guess what? 4 more customers asking if they're still available! Now it's my turn to tease my brother. And you bet what he said?" Wow, so there's a lot of great-grandmas out there!"

And few days back, it's my first ever time to style a gentleman. My brother was assigned to take pictures for his college's party.

Don't laugh here, but the vintage blazer is actually for the ladies'! But I figure out that the contemporary cutting for men tends to be slimmer and figure hugging so it kinda compromises the latest gents' silhouettes. I use Watson's straightener and Gatsby to style his hair like a rooster.

By the way, my brother's the quiet hardworking photographer behind CGV!

There's a new girl in the vintage store. And she's pretty little Mary Jane.

She's your childhood crush living next door. She's usually quiet and shy, but always with a bright smile, this beautiful redhead has melted the hearts of many. Always bubbly and optimistic, she never fails to chase away the cloud of the gloomy town.

Her favorites will be checkers, polka dots, sundresses and everything pink. You'll see her wearing those more often in the store later on!

To celebrate our convocation, stepping into the university of society, and reaching 100 blog followers, we're renovating the space into a better and efficient place for you to shop and play vintage!

And also some brand new concepts for the store! We hope to strive more towards photography, larger collection updates and a better online retail experience for all of you :)

And also we're thrilled to welcome our really rad DIY hanger here! Say hello to Destiny II!

Well, we sort of got bored with the mundane routine of taking pictures with our trusty ol' mannequin Destiny I, so Destiny II here will be modeling for basic thrift apparels and really really small sizes that even the mannequin can't fit it! Isn't she lovely!? We are thinking of expanding a whole collection of DIY pretty babe hangers here!

Inspired by Seventeen's DIY Chic 2005 issue and Carambatack's lovely illustrations. The rose and butterfly motif is one of the prominent signature of the store. Destiny II is everything about a Cute Granny girl. Pretty, flexible, loves experimenting all sorts of things. She can't live without mascara, blusher, lip gloss, and of course, vintage fashion!
